During the process of sewing fabric with a sewing machine, irregular phenomena such as uneven movement speed of the fabric and irregular stitch lengths may occur.
Regarding this fault phenomenon, the author analyzes that the movement of the fabric relies entirely on the cooperation between the feed dog and the presser foot to move forward. Therefore, when the fabric exhibits the aforementioned irregular movement, we can conclude that the feed dog and presser foot have malfunctioned or the pressure adjustment is improper. If the pressure of the presser foot is too low, it cannot press the fabric tightly, resulting in irregular movement. At this time, we simply need to turn the pressure adjusting screw downwards to press the fabric tightly.
In addition, if the presser foot is too high, the flat sewing machine's presser foot will also be unable to press down on the fabric, resulting in the fabric moving freely or not moving at all. When adjusting, we should first lift the presser foot wrench, loosen the guide frame screw, and then move the presser foot rod downwards from top to bottom to adjust the distance between the presser foot and the needle plate to a height of 7mm-8mm. After that, tighten the screw and start using the machine.
It is worth noting that there is another reason: the loosening of the tooth screw of the flat sewing machine causes the teeth to shake side to side during operation, preventing the fabric from moving forward in a regular manner. For this issue, our recommended solution is to remove the needle plate of the flat sewing machine and tighten the two tooth screws. After tightening, we can reinstall the needle plate and check whether the edges of the teeth are rubbing against the edges of the needle plate slot. If there is friction, it can cause noise and machine weight issues. In this case, we must remove the needle plate again, loosen the tooth screws, adjust the position of the teeth to the middle of the needle plate slot, tighten the tooth screws, and reinstall the needle plate.
